Welcome to AERO’s Montana Food System Resource Library: a curated resource of videos, information, templates, webinar recordings, stories, and links developed through AERO’s food system programs. We’ve organized the library into two “toolkits”, and you can also use the keyword search and filters to explore the library’s contents.

The VALUE-ADDED PRODUCER Toolkit

This toolkit provides resources and information for producers and vendors of home kitchen, Montana-made foods sold direct to consumers. Includes information relevant to the “Cottage Food” law passed in 2015 and the “MT Local Food Choice Act” (or “Food Freedom”) law passed in 2021.

RESOURCES FOR:

  • Value-added food producers and vendors
  • Registered sanitarians
  • Farmers market vendors and managers
  • Cottage food operators
The COMMUNITY FOOD SYSTEM Toolkit

This toolkit gathers the information and resources developed through AERO’s Montana Food Economy Initiative (MFEI) program. Since the 1980s, AERO has supported producer-led projects to support on-farm resilience and community food system development. MFEI programming builds collaborations among community members and food system stakeholders, including businesses/enterprises focused on food production, processing, distribution, access/consumption, and resource remainder recovery. At the heart of MFEI’s work is connecting Montanans with their food in the communities where they live and helping to form lasting partnerships to create strong community food webs.
